Dark forests, the calling of the aurora, two people against the tides of fate

Octavia McAloon’s sophomore album Skybound is an original folk tale told through delicate fingerpicking, atmospheric vocals, emotive strings, and immersive textures.

Skybound follows the tale of Theodred, a young and quixotic traveler, and Aneira, an ever-cautious healer, in a village haunted by an elder bargain. After an injury on the road, a change of plans leads to their ill-fated meeting. The two quickly fall into a relationship, though there are many dangers in this forest.

Here, the earth has learned to fend for itself, and the woods call the unlucky few out on moonless nights. The pair risk the lives they’ve known in order to live in this most ardent of loves.

Skybound started with a song called β€œMoonless Night,” depicting a spirit of the forest that culls the village in exchange for future safety and a strong harvest.  When I performed this song, an idea began to crystalize; I could tell the whole story as a concept album.

Over the next two years, I planned a narrative and eventually created an entire folk opera, complete with guest vocalists as the additional characters, more instruments, and a highly emotive ending. I’ve become attached to these characters and have loved sharing many of the songs with live audiences.

This is a powerful, magical story told through songs you are going to love.
