Music under a Full Moon

mystical folk and meditative ritual in an intimate outdoor setting

music & nature

There is a profound connection between music and spirit, reaching us in ways words often cannot. Music fills a deep-seated need within us, serving as a conduit for our spiritual yearnings, granting space for reflection and - in the right circumstance - transcendence.

When we experience music in nature, the connection between soul and the world around us is strengthened. The ambient sounds of chirping birds, rustling leaves, and distant streams graciously accompany us; all things have a place, all things have a song.

In recognition of this connection, I am initiating a concert series of acoustic music in nature and other intimate settings. On these moonlit nights, we’ll gather for a combination of private concert and ritual, while admiring the beauty of the world around us.

In the digital era, so many of us are beginning to recognize a longing for our place in natural systems and cycles. For millennia, people have looked to the flora, fauna, and celestia as guides in the rhythms of life, allowing time for strength and rest, waxing and waning.

In appreciating the presence of the moon, we are reminded of the elegant timing of creation. Wherever you may be in the cycles of your life, following the lunar cycle offers you time to reset, time for spiritual nourishment.

Hi there, I’m Octavia! I’m a folk singer-songwriter who loves to spend her days in the forest. I’ve been writing and performing my own music professionally since 2017, and in that time, I’ve felt the disconnect between musicians who are trying to interact with spiritual/nature-inspired subject matter and the majority of music venues. Maybe you’ve noticed that independent music is usually being performed in bars, and often loud bars. Don’t get me wrong, a loud high-energy show at a bar can be tons of fun, but that’s not the only thing I want to hear when looking for a musical experience.

In addition to my experience as a folk (and classical!) musician, I’ve been involved in nature-based spirituality for 3 years, and interested in it for far longer. During that time I’ve worked as a solitary practitioner and with a coven, and have learned that I really enjoy creative ritual and spellcrafting (for when you’re bored of lighting a candle or putting something in a jar). My craft tends to reflect my adoration of nature, and what better way to combine them than music in the forest under a full moon!

about me

We’ll gather in the new outdoor teaching space of the hundred acre wood around 7:45, head into the forest around 8, have some friendly chat to feel a little less like strangers. We begin with grounding an centering, then I lead into a musical performance of about 45 minutes, interspersed with readings of prose, time for themed reflection, brief meditation, releasing, and closing.

This event is open to all gender identities.

Please bring:

  • bug protection and layers for warmth - it’s summer in a forest.

  • Something to sit on - camp chair, beach towel, picnic blanket, whatever’s comfortable

  • light - headlamp, flashlight, or phone flashlight. We’ll be finishing up at the end of daylight, so expect dim light when walking back.

  • comfortable shoes - the walk to parking spaces is 5-10 minutes of well maintained trail

  • something to write on/with, if you’d like to finish the releasing ritual with fire at home.

  • suggested donation of $15, payable by cash, paypal, or venmo

Suggested parking - 18th street, at the edge of Fairhaven park and the hundred acre wood:
48.713732, -122.494053 for directions. We’ll meet at the new outdoor teaching space benches by this entrance before walking to the ritual spot. Be sure to arrive by 7:45 so we can all find the space together!

“…the moon rises, so beautiful it
makes me shudder, makes me think about
time and space, makes me take
measure of myself: one iota
pondering heaven. Thus we sit, myself

thinking how grateful I am for the moon’s
perfect beauty and also, oh! how rich
it is to love the world”

Mary Oliver, from “The Sweetness of Dogs”
